Shop assistants feel the pay divide

Shop
assistants took home average salaries of less than £10,000 this year compared
to chief executives in the retail sector who earned more than £200,000,
research shows.

The
gulf between boardroom and shopfloor pay was highlighted in a study of 20
retail firms by the employee benefits consultancy William M Mercer.

The
study reveals that chief executives in the retail sector received basic salaries
ranging from £112,000 to £362,250.
