The chief executive of supermarket giant Tesco boss was paid almost £4m last year – a rise of about 25% – after overseeing bumper profits for the company.
Details of Sir Terry Leahy’s pay packet emerged in the company’s annual report, which looked back on a year in which Tesco’s profits reached more than £2.2bn.
Leahy’s basic salary improved 6% to £1.1m, but performance-related cash and shares pushed his total package to £3.98m – against £3.19m a year earlier.
Earlier this month Tesco rewarded staff with £78m in shares from a profit share scheme.
