Union wranglings over Royal Mail’s offer in postal dispute forces cancellation of Commons hearing with business secretary

Trade union wranglings over Royal Mail’s latest offer in the postal dispute forced the cancellation of a Commons hearing with business secretary John Hutton today.

Communication Workers Union bosses have yet to decide whether to approve the deal agreed between the union and the Royal Mail last weekend.

Hutton was due to speak to a Trade and Industry Committee today but the hearing was cancelled because the union talks are rumbling on.

Postal workers went on strike for four days either side of Sunday 7 October as part of a long-running dispute over pay, pensions and flexibility. Departmental strikes this week have been cancelled while the union considers the latest offer.
