Doctors who are worried about long hours destroying their work-life balance have the opportunity to apply for £40,000 job, which only asks them to be on call for 18 weeks out of the year.
The medical practice on the Isle of Lewis in the Western Isles is offering £35,800 salary with a joining bonus of £5,000.
However, the practice in the town of Gravir has opted out of the Working Time Directive, meaning the successful applicant will be expected to be on call 24/7 to offer care during his or her 18 weeks.
Dr Jack Barker, who is leaving the practice after 24 years, said the 24/7 stipulation did not seem to be a problem with applicants and six people had already applied to the advertisement which appeared in the doctors’ weekly magazine Pulse.
