Whitehall plans come under fire

Proposed Whitehall reforms could increase the productivity gap, the
Industrial Society claims.

It says disconnected policy making by government, which would be exacerbated
by a new Department of Working Age, may undermine efforts to boost
productivity.

The society is calling for the DTI to be restructured as the Productivity
and Employment Office.

As Personnel Today went to press, the Prime Minister was carrying out a
Cabinet reshuffle.
