I work 30 hours a week over 4 days. My notice period is 4 weeks.

I handed in my notice on Tuesday 31st September giving 4 calender weeks to finish on Tuesday 28th September. I'm now being told I have to work till the end of my normal working week -ie to finish on Thursday the 30th of September. Is this correct?

Unless your contract is specific about how and when notice should be given then I would say that you are correct.

Adhna is right that you are correct.  You are under no obligation to have to work 'complete' weeks as part of your notice.

However, do consider if it would be okay to work to the end of the week anyway?  If you have a new job to go to, they may prefer you to start on a Monday themselves rather than mid-week.

However,  if they want you as soon as possible, you want a break before the new job, or just want to get away as quick as possible, then stand firm.

Good luck,
Adam
