    Data Protection and recruitment agencies

How many of you have had various issues with agencies email you and not removing your details when requested as per the DPA?

What is your stance on email communication from agencies?  Some of my clients have viewed it as spam and others as market intelligence.

Generally I find it serves no purpose other than to fill up my inbox! Interestingly, when I've replied requesting I be removed from mailing lists, I've sometimes been asked why I'm making the request. Surely the reasons are obvious?!

Generally if I want informations, I would ask my suppliers or look on-line.  Very rarely would I read a generic e-mail communication.

Similar to ABC - I have been put on mailing lists in the past without knowing about and then told I need to "unsubscribe"; I didn't subscribe in the first place and then when I do unsubscribe I get a call asking me why!

There are ways around this, the direct marketing association run a system called the email preference system which you can sign up to for £50.00 per year with multiply email addresses, I believe that by law email marketing users need to check their data against the opt out list prior to sending.

To be honest, I've always found that the people who tend to send stroppy messages back to recruiters or simply 'UNSUBSCRIBE' tend to be the most difficult of candidates as well when they are looking for a role in the future. A simple, 'please remove me from your mailing list' goes a long way.

Yes, I work in recruitment, but I also appreciate people trying to make a living, I get regular emails from people/companies trying to sell me things and I genuinely don't mind at all.

Re: Data Protection and recruitment agencies

Whilst I appreciate it is a very difficult time for everyone at the moment, if I have not requested details from agencies I politely ask them to remove me from their listing. If this fails and I still receive e-mails or further messages from them I send a reminder of my original request and also advise that I am moving them to my spam folder and therefore any future e-mails will not be read by myself.
