    Redundancy/sick absence

If someone is in the consultation period, has been asked to work but goes sick, what is the legal position?

    Re: Redundancy/sick absence

I would treat it like any other period of sick absence in that you follow your company policy in dealing with that event. If it is suspected that the illness is not genuine, then you deal with it accordingly and reasonably. If redundancy confirmation meetings are due to take place and the employee is still out sick and they are unable to attend the office, the options would be to arrange to meet the employee off site, or hold a telephone meeting to inform them of the decision. Make sure you update long-term sick employees with the same information as everyone else and do everything you can reasonably to do run the process without too much disruption.
