This global leader in the retail sector is looking for an Employee Relations Manager to join their Employee Relations team in Head office. Working with a broad range of client group you will be dealing with a range of escalated issues and project work. This business is a market leader in HR initiatives and strives to lead from the front as they grow and develop into new markets. Details on the role:

What is the purpose of the job?

To develop and lead implementation of employment policies which ensure

* that the company is legally compliant in all the territories in which it operates
* support the delivery of business objectives

To reduce brand and reputational risk and unnecessary costs arising from people management practice, including risks and costs arising from TUPE and Merger and Acquisition activity.

To provide expert advice on complex employee relations issues which cannot be resolved via the Specialist ER hubs.

What are you accountable for achieving?

* Legally compliant employment contracts, policies and employee handbooks which are simple to understand and use
* Effective communication of policy to HR and line managers
* Legally compliant and effective consultative arrangements through unions.
* Analysis of forthcoming employment legislation to identify the impact on the organisation, participation in relevant Government consultation where appropriate, and development of new policies which ensure both compliance and operational efficiency
* Advise HR Leadership Team on emerging policy trends, competitor activity, and best practice benchmarks in the UK and relevant overseas markets

What technical knowledge, experience and personal skills do you need?

Essential:

* Thorough understanding of relevant employment law
* Excellent planning and organisational skills required to deliver change across multiple customer bases and geographies
* The ability to deliver successfully in a matrix management environment
* Personal style and gravitas to inspire confidence at senior levels and externally
* The ability to analyse information and recommend the most appropriate solution
* Strong influencing skills
* Drive, energy and resilience in the face of resistance
* Blue chip company experience (Retail advantageous but not essential)
* Self confidence - a self starter
* Able to inspire confidence at senior levels and externally
* Strong proven stakeholder engagement skills
* Project Management skills
* Excellent written communications skills including experience of simplifying policies and implementing them in a large environment

Advantageous:

* Experience of leading change or managing employee relations in a unionized business including leading union negotiations and successfully managing trade union relationships
* Experience of leading consultation across multi-site operations
* Good presentation skills
