The HM Prison Shared Services is located in Newport, South Wales. The Prison Service identified the need to streamline its HR, Finance and Procurement services and, to this end, implemented a National Shared Service Centre to centralise and simplify processes within these areas. As a result, the National Shared Service has received several awards including the prestigious Shared Service Excellence Award for Europe and, on the back of its success, the Shared Services have expanded.

Salary and Benefits:

• Salary: Up to £31,351 plus £1,500 for CIPD Licentiate Membership or £4,000 Full CIPD Membership
• Excellent pension scheme.

Job Purpose:


• Provide advice, guidance and HR case management service to managers across the Prison Service, by telephone and email
• This HR advice will be legally compliant and operationally focussed across a range of HR cases and will include complex casework.

Responsibilities will include:


• Managing a number of HR cases throughout the Prison Service, by telephone and email. The HR casework will include supporting the management of complex discipline, grievances and sickness absence cases through HMPS processes. (Including supporting decision makers at Employment Tribunals if appropriate)
• Provide advice and support by telephone and email to managers, adhering to HMPS policies
• Coach managers through complex cases that involve their staff
• Work in partnership with colleagues in the Field Based team
• Being an expert point of contact on HR matters and processes within the Shared Service Centre
• Assist in training staff within the contact centre and the HR transactional team on the HR issues and processes within the Shared Service Centre.

Experience:


• Able to demonstrate experience of having managed a range of complex HR casework
• Experience of providing advice and guidance to line managers across a wide range of HR issues
• Able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of employment law and current case law
• Experience of working with MS Office suite and other IT Packages
• Fully/part CIPD qualified or qualified by experience.

Benefits


• Salary: Up to £31,351 plus £1,500 for CIPD Licentiate Membership or £4,000 Full CIPD Membership. Part-time working can be considered
• Annual Leave: You will be entitled to 25 days’ paid leave plus 10.5 public holidays
• Pension: New entrants to the Prison Service will have a choice of two schemes under the current Civil Service pensions arrangements.
