The UK Compensation and Benefits (C&B) Centre of Excellence in HR is responsible for managing the UK reward frameworks that attract talent and help retain and motivate them as employees. There is a requirement for an interim compensation and benefits manager/senior analyst with experience in either an HR or business role involving practical and detailed application of the existing reward policies and processes.
The Compensation & Benefits Specialist does not supervise any direct reports or directly manage a budget. However they do have an indirect impact on business costs through involvement in the design and implementation of high value C&B processes.
Main Interfaces:
*To ensure efficient and effective end to end process management both roles regularly interface with the Shared Services Centre and external suppliers such as market data providers (Hay; Towers Perrin; IDS; Croners, etc) and outsourced service providers. e.g., Flexible Benefits; Company Cars; Healthcare; etc
*There will be a high level of collaboration with the HR Employee Relations team in support of the Trade Union negotiation and stakeholder management.
*The Specialists will chair and / or participate in joint working groups with the Trade Unions.
Key Tasks:
*Support the ongoing design, implementation and improvement of competitive salary and performance bonus frameworks; employee benefits programmes and key policy areas - Family Provisions, Flexible Working, Business Expenses.
*Manage the delivery channels for specific C&B activities, either through the Shared Services Centre or 3rd party providers. (e.g., maximising the effectiveness of the Front Desk and overall query management for the C&B processes; implementation of the annual Flexible Benefits or Total Reward Statement programmes.)
*Externally benchmark, via periodic or ad hoc salary surveys or research, to maximise National Grid's awareness and knowledge of market practice in all areas of compensation and benefits and thereby support business decision making.
* Support the job sizing / job evaluation processes for the various employee categories to ensure there is company wide consistency. (On occasions this will involve participation in Hay job evaluation panels.)
* Interpret legislation / HMRC tax rules regulating C&B to ensure all policies and processes are implemented in a legally compliant manner.
*Conduct analysis and produce key statistical information / metrics required for business-as-usual and project activity. For example, data input to the collective bargaining for the Staff & Gas Fieldforce grades; market pay adjustment exercises; value for money reviews of employee benefits.)
*Provide "centre of excellence" / specialist input to the resolution of ad hoc business issues. e.g., specific attraction or retention issues in a line of business. In specific circumstances the role holder will act as the project manager and lead the piece of work.
* Engage key stakeholders to ensure that C&B frameworks are relevant and valued.
* Support ad hoc projects either on a regional (UK) or global basis. e.g., implementation of new technology / systems; Climate Change related policy development.
