To support the Equality and Diversity Manager in ensuring the effective development and implementation of policies, procedures and Practices across all equality strands i.e. race, gender, gender identity, disability, sexuality, age, religion or belief.
To undertake research in relation to legislation and best practice and use knowledge to inform the Council's continuous improvement in performance in relation to equality and diversity.
To monitor and review a range of action plans and prepare reports on progress in relation to agreed actions and statistical data.
To support effective activities to mainstream equality and diversity into all Council functions including:
· supporting the equality impact assessment process,
· supporting the business planning process and
· supporting the corporate infrastructure for managing equality and diversity issues.
To work collaboratively with others within and outside the Team, and with partner organisations, to make progress on a range of important equality and diversity related projects
To help spread knowledge and understanding of equality and diversity issues within and outside of the Council by providing advice and information, developing guidance and preparing briefings.
To attend a range of internal and external meetings and feedback outcomes and actions into the team and other bodies.
To collate and analyse statistical and other data and assist with reporting on performance across a range of indicators.
To cover for team members in relation to day to day office routines and activities, including responding to enquiries from within and outside of the Council
£15 - £16 per hour
The person will need to demonstrate:
· Experience of working on one or more of the equality strands in a public or voluntary sector setting, and an understanding of the wider range of equality strands to be supported.
· A commitment to working in a way that promotes and respects diversity and eliminates discrimination in any form
· An understanding of the effects of direct and indirect discriminatory Practices or harassment against people from minority or under-represented groups
· The ability to work with a wide range of people within communities and professions and develop effective working relationships.
· Current knowledge of equality legislation in one or more of the equality strands and the willingness to quickly gain knowledge of other strands.
· An understanding of the role of local government and the wide range of services it provides and supports
· The ability to undertake research, analyse information and data and produce clear and concise reports, information, briefing notes.
· Good communication skills including the ability to use plain language in the presentation of reports and materials and a helpful telephone manner
· Good IT skills in terms of the use of word processing and spreadsheets and good organisational skills
· Good negotiating skills in relation to working with people at all levels to raise the profile of equality and diversity and ensure issues are addressed
· A commitment to working within the range of Council policies that apply to all employees i.e. ethical working, health and safety, risk management, data protection.
