KNOWLEDGE AND LEARNING MANAGER - MAJOR LONDON LAW FIRM - £70K
This international law practice are looking for a Corporate Lawyer to join their Knowledge and Learning team. The role involves
· Assist Divisional K&L Partner with setting of Divisional K&L Strategy and action plans to deliver on that strategy that is consistent with (i) the firm’s K&L strategy and (ii) the Divisional Business plan
· Assist each global practice area K&L partner with setting of similar K&L strategies and action plans for each global practice area that is consistent with (i) the divisional K&L strategy and (ii) the global practice area business plan
· In conjunction with the relevant regional and national K&L managers, partners and COOs, assist each group/national practice area K&L partner with the setting of a K&L strategy and action plan to deliver on that strategy that is consistent with (i) the global practice area K&L strategy, (ii) the regional K&L strategy and (iii) that group’s/national practice area’s business plan
· Execute the divisional K&L strategy, in line with the global K&L strategy
· Act as a point of escalation for K&L service for issues arising from the practice
Ensure that local K&L resources are adequate for the needs of the practice groups Advise the Divisional and Practice K&L Partners and drive change through the practice in relation to K&L
· Consults with key stakeholders (K&L partners, other partners, PSLs, Information Officers, Business Managers, COOs, other lawyers, marketing team) to assist them in identifying and implementing K&L strategy and plans in each practice in the division
· Key liaison role between the divisional axis of management of the practice and the K&L function
· Responsible for co-ordinating with marketing and client facing K&L team to produce divisional client facing K&L
· Manages both internal and external resources appropriately the required result
· Act as a K&L consultant to Partners and business managers across the division in order to understand their business goals and advise on appropriate knowledge learning interventions to support these goals
· Influence decision-making at this senior level to determine most appropriate interventions, drive change and engage senior management to gain buy-in for implementation of these
· Work together with the practice area K&L teams to ensure that K&L ties in with the practice, highlighting areas where it can add value
· Understand global K&L strategy and systems and divisional/ jurisdictional strategies and priorities
· Understand scope of practice/geographical plans
· Mentor & coach K&L Teams on: Firm K&L strategy and systems · Divisional/jurisdictional strategies and priorities · How to identify K&L needs · How to develop a K&L action plan · K&L good practice · What other K&L teams are doing
· To be on the look out for good practice to be shared amongst the K&L community and other NPAs
· Identify K&L needs for other NPAs from each NPA
· Feed K&L needs of other NPAs to each NPA
· Identify obstacles to effective K&L activities and ideas to address/remove these obstacles
· Assess the status of each NPA’s investment in K&L activities
· Develop and share understanding of K&L good practice amongst K&L team
· Ensure all legal staff based in the division benefit from relevant technical and skills training at the appropriate time to support their development, add value to the business strategically and ultimately the quality of the service they are able to provide to our clients
· Consult with HR/L&D Managers and Advisors globally to ensure buy-in and support for global and cross-divisional initiatives and to ensure accurate understanding of local need
· Providing a point of contact for the K&L partner(s), business managers, COOs, relevant fee earners and PSLs to ensure that the needs of the practice are integrated into the divisional and practice area business plans and are being met by the K&L team
· Arranges regular meetings with K&L partners and PSLs to ensure the divisional K&L strategy is being implemented and that the appropriate links are made with regional and global K&L initiatives
· Ensures that any areas of difficulty regarding K&L service requirements/requests are managed appropriately.
Technical K&L requirements:
· Manage the delivery, quality and cost of technical training programmes run across the division, where the content is written by the practice (e.g. Foundation courses, GACS etc) and ensure that appropriate divisional technical knowledge (precedents, subject matter folders, procedures guides) is complete, accurate and up to date. This will involve: · Working with partners, PSLs and other lawyers in the division to identify global knowledge, training and learning needs
· Supporting partners, PSLs and other lawyers in the design of technical training for fee earners, drawing on local content expertise and sponsorship and ensuring that resource is allocated to meet knowledge needs
· Assisting in the export of technical training delivered in the region to the international network and that local technical knowledge is visible globally Skills - Global Cross Practice Courses and modules
· Identifies divisional skills requirements and feeds these into the professional development team to ensure they are met through global learning interventions or divisional/NPA specific offerings as appropriate
· Develop/revise and run practice focused skills training within the practice areas drawing on local content expertise and sponsorship, ensuring this is co-ordinated across the divisions.
Business planning:
· Liaise regularly with Business Managers to monitor K&L costs at appropriate points against budget, feed back information and highlight any issues arising and reforecast as appropriate
· Responsible for business planning in relation to courses/ projects, faculty and related costs
· Responsible for decisions relating to buying external services to support the practice Relationships with External Suppliers Manage relationships between firm and external suppliers in K&L field where necessary. Includes:
· Influence decision-making over appropriate external faculty/ consultants/venues/providers
· Ensure that all relationships are managed within the parameters of departmental and firm policy, including the development and management of service level agreements where appropriate
· Monitor costs against a budget, feed back information to Business Managers and highlight any issues arising.
Networking:
· Build on existing and new networks within and outside the firm globally to ensure the flow of best practice and content for knowledge and learning activities
· Actively integrate with all the Practice Groups e.g. prepare presentations, present at team meetings etc.
