Pontin’s holiday camp in Blackpool is to close, with the loss of 70 jobs.
Owners Ocean Parcs has announced the historic site was to close – blaming spiralling costs and disappointing booking figures, local paper the Blackpool Gazette reported.
But the owner announced earlier this year it was planning to create 2,000 new jobs and invest £50m in other UK holiday centres.
The firm said today 300 jobs would be created at Bream Sands holiday park, as well as 250 in the construction stage, as it goes through a major three-year expansion.
Bream Sands aims to more than double the amount of accommodation, so 6,000 people can stay there, subject to planning approval.
