I sometimes used to take clients into my confidence by saying that most agencies have secret ‘A list’, ‘B list’ and ‘C list’ clients based on the fees they have agreed. The A-list clients get sent the best candidates, the B-list get the B-grade candidates and the C-list get the rest. I only work with A grade candidates – I just don’t have time for B’s and C’s – I often refer those candidates to my competition.
