The chair of Opportunity Now has been made a fair pay champion
to tackle the 18 per cent gender pay gap.
Clara Freeman has been appointed by employment minister
Tessa Jowell.
Freeman said, “I am delighted to act as a fair pay champion
and publicly promote fairness and equality in pay. Opportunity Now’s members
are in the vanguard of organisations taking voluntary action to ensure equality
between men and women in the workforce.”
“We recognise that equal pay is not only fair but a critical
ingredient in attracting and retaining the best talent in a tight labour
market.”
She welcomes the Government’s controversial voluntary
approach to pay audits and intends to work with Opportunity Now members over
the coming months to identify and share best practice.
Opportunity Now is a Business in the Community campaign that
works with employers to realise the business benefits that women contribute to
the workforce.
