Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority

Occupational Health Services Contract

In accordance with Part I of the Local Government Act 1988, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service intend to invite tenders for the provision of a Occupational Health Service for its employees within the Greater Manchester area.

It is intended that the work will be let in one contract which will be for an initial period of 3 years commencing late spring / early summer 2009, with an option for the Authority to extend for either a further period of 24 months or two further periods of 12 months.

The contractor will be required to provide clinical services related to health surveillance, statutory and pre-employment medicals, fitness assessments and counselling. In addition they will provide advice and assistance on the work environment, prevention of occupational incapacity, control of sickness absence and make referrals to other clinical specialists. The contractor will maintain a computer system which holds medical records, examinations and appointments in liaison with the Authority HR function.
