Your two stories on public sector workforce diversity last week indicated some vitally important points for HR civil servants.
The report of a reduction in female, ethnic minority and disabled public appointments is a clear step away from the sector’s diversity goals (‘Public sector takes backward step in bid to tackle diversity in the workplace’, Personnel Today, 4 November).
While equality minister Maria Eagle’s comments (Personneltoday.com, 30 October) remind all those yet to take action that, before long, they will come under the government microscope for their poor diversity management, and face possible sanctions, fines and the inevitable damage to their reputation.
These stories highlight just how important it is for organisations to get going on diversity.
Putting the systems and processes in place to effectively monitor, plan and report on the staff necessities of their organisation will be vital for those who truly want to turn diversity from yet another government-imposed chore, to a true success.
