Music to the ears
A website offering advice and guidance on noise at work has been launched by the music and entertainment industry, environmental health officers and the Health and Safety Executive. It is aimed at people involved in music and entertainment, including those working in concert halls and theatres, rock and pop venues, pubs and clubs and studios.
RoSPA conference
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents’ annual conference in Scotland will be held in Glasgow on 24 September. This year’s conference will focus on the value of demonstrating good health and safety performance and on how working together can lead to higher standards. Click here for more details.
Construction warning
The Health and Safety Executive has issued a warning to construction firms about the importance of maintaining plant and equipment following the prosecution of two firms over the partial collapse of an access cradle suspended from a Sheffield office building in 2003. It resulted in the death of one man and injured three others. Apollo Cradles of Barnsley and Bradway Construction of Sheffield – were fined £115,000 and £25,000 respectively.

Kent farm safety scheme
Kent Police, the Vehicle & Operator Services Agency and the Health and Safety Executive carried out random checks on farm vehicles in the county over the summer as part of an initiative to improve health and safety. There have been 22 major injuries and four deaths in Kent in the past five years.
