With the World Health Organisation declaring swine flu a global pandemic, nearly two out of five employers still do not have a proper HR policy in place to dealing with swine flu or other health-related emergencies, a survey has said.

The poll by consultancy Mercer found that more than half of those surveyed are still considering whether to create back-up and contingency plans, while four out of 10 are planning to restrict or cancel business travel or allow homeworking.
Other steps include voluntary quarantine for employees exposed to risk, enforced quarantine, cancelling of meetings or conferences, screening of staff or visitors returning from travel, increased medical check-ups and reviewing health or insurance plans. One-quarter said they were taking no special action.
