Companies fined 13k for employee death
A Grimsby construction firm, JMPI, and a Southampton firm, TSL Hygienic, have been fined a total of  £13,000, plus £10,000 over the death of a worker in 2001. The panel installer fell from a scaffold platform while trying to climb a ladder.

HSE publishes guide on work and height rules
A guide on the new Work and Height Regulations has been issued by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). The guide is aimed at smaller businesses and is available on the HSE website.

Inspection ‘blitz’ stops work at 244 sites
The Health & Safety Executive issued 214 enforcement notices during a ‘blitz’ on construction sites during March. In 244 cases work was stopped voluntarily until improvements were made.

Views wanted on injury reporting regulations
The Health and Safety Commission seeks opinions on its Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 review. Go to www.hse.gov.uk/consult/disdocs/riddordd.htm
