Union bares teeth over mad dogs and English posties

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) is calling for a nationwide campaign to highlight the dangers of dog attacks on postal workers.

The union said there were up to 6,000 incidents a year and dog attacks continued to be a “serious problem” for its members. Earlier this month a postman needed reconstructive surgery on his hand after being attacked by a bull mastiff on his round in Newbridge, south Wales.

Dave Joyce, CWU health and safety officer, said: “The most important thing is that postal workers are able to go home at the end of the day as fit and healthy as when they arrived for work in the morning.”
