The widow of a worker who died after exposure to asbestos at Buckingham Palace has been awarded £177,901 in damages.
John Costello, a maintenance worker, died aged 58 in September 2001, of the asbestos-related disease mesothelioma.

Mary Costello, who gave up work to care for her husband at home, sought compensation to cover the cost of his care and loss of earnings.
John Costello’s work included stripping down the large boilers that heated the palace and repairing them. He would have to remove the old asbestos packing and replace it with new asbestos.
