OH practitioner lands second consultant role

A second OH practitioner has been appointed to the position of consultant nurse.

Anna Cosgrove was made a nurse consultant at University Hospital of North Staffordshire in April, having previously been head OH nurse at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton.

She joins Tammie Daly as only the second NHS OH nurse consultant in the country.

Despite now having a much wider educational and managerial role, Cosgrove stressed that 50 per cent of her time would still be devoted to clinical work.

One change already in place has been establishing an open appointment, self-booking system for pre-employment and vaccination clinics that has reduced ‘do not attends’ by 30 per cent.

“As it is a new department, my first task is to get the priorities and policies in place,” she told Occupational Health. “It is important that the trust knows we are here and what we do and who to refer to.”
