Stressed out Indian soldiers are being offered yoga and counselling after a series of suicides in the nation’s armed forces.
Defence minister AK Antony said training in relaxation exercises would also be introduced for soldiers at a higher risk of ‘combat stress’.
The Indian forces reported 146 suicides in 2006, with 120 in the army, 24 in the air force and two in the navy.
So far this year, there have been a further 21.
Officers should be more accessible to soldiers and attend to grievances quickly, Antony added.
