Local authorities and HSE plan partnerships

The Health & Safety Executive has joined forces with the body regulating local authorities, the Local Authorities Co-ordinators of Regulatory Services, to issue a joint statement of intent to improve health and safety in local government. The idea is to develop a more effective partnership between now and 2010.

Waste management/recycling web help

A website to help employers in the waste management and recycling industries improve their health and safety record has been launched by the Health & Safety Executive. The site, www.hse.gov.uk/waste, aims to improve the health and safety record of one the UK’s most dangerous industries.

The Health & Safety Executive has launched a website for the surface engineering industry. The site, www.hse.gov.uk/surfaceengineering, gives workers access to free, up-to-date advice on health and safety.

Effective risk assessment for crane operators

The Health & Safety Executive has warned of the need for an effective risk assessment for all personnel involved in the operation of cranes. The warning follows the prosecution of Felixstowe Dock and Railway after a worker was crushed between railings as he moved between walkways on a crane’s platform.
