A consultation is running until March on setting a new workplace exposure limit for respirable crystalline silica. About two million staff a year are exposed to crystalline silica, which is found in almost all types of rock, sands and clays. Long-term exposure can lead to the development of silicosis. A range of new health and safety qualifications aimed at people working in farming have been recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, the Health and Safety Executive has said. The vocational qualifications are the first designed specifically for the farming industry.
