HSE amends COSHH rules on cement constituent
The HSE has amended the COSHH regulations to make new restrictions on the amount of chromium VI allowed in cement. It is being introduced to help prevent allergic contact dermatitis, it said.
Hand injury costs Wessex Trains £10,000
Wessex Trains has been fined £10,000 after a mechanical fitter sustained severe injuries to his hand. The incident took place at the company’s Exeter depot in January last year. The worker’s hand became trapped in a locomotive’s ribbed multi-vee auxiliary belt, crushing his fingers and requiring the amputation of his little finger.
Death fall results in £87,000 fine
Two companies have been fined a total of £87,000 following an investigation into the death of an engineer. Krypton Health Construction and Controlled Flame Boilers were prosecuted after the worker fell nine metres from an unprotected edge on a site at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.
