Lloyds to close Brighton call-centre cutting 500 jobs

Lloyds Banking Group has announced the closure of its Sussex House contact centre in Brighton, with the loss of more than 500 jobs.

The call centre closure, scheduled for May 2010, will affect around 535 jobs, reports the Guardian: 162 staff will be redeployed but the remaining 373 job cuts will be achieved through voluntary redundancy and making less use of contractors and agency staff. Compulsory redundancies will be a last resort, said the bank.

David Nicholson, of the bank’s retail division, said: “As part of our integration process, we have reviewed our contact centre sites to ensure that we are working in the best possible way. We recognise that this is difficult news for our affected colleagues.”
