A refuse collector has been removed from the bin round he has worked for the past 33 years after the council said he collected too much rubbish.
Albert Stewart, who worked at West Lancashire Borough Council, helped residents by taking away extra bin bags left beside overflowing wheelie bins, but council bosses accused him of breaking strict refuse rules.
The council said binmen should only empty wheelie bins and must leave other rubbish behind.
Stewart has now been issued with a written warning moved to another round several miles away, the Daily Mail reported.
Stewart said: “I have done the same round for over 30 years, and now, just because I took some side waste, I’m being punished.”
West Lancashire Borough Council said it could not comment on matters involving individual employees.
