The new Commissioner for Public Appointments for England and Wales will be Janet Gaymer, Downing Street has announced.
The commissioner’s role is to regulate, monitor, report and advise on appointments made by UK ministers and by members of the National Assembly for Wales to the boards of around 900 national and regional public bodies.

Janet Gaymer has been the senior partner in law firm Simmons & Simmons since 2001. Prior to that, she spent 30 years in employment law working in both the public and private sector. She will succeed Baroness Rennie Fritchie
“I am really pleased to be appointed as the new Commissioner for Public Appointments,” she said. “It is important the appointments made by ministers to the boards of public bodies are made on merit after fair and open competition and that the general public have faith in the system as a whole.”
