University honours Unison boss

The general secretary of Unison, Rodney Bickerstaffe will be awarded an honorary law doctorate by the University of Hertfordshire, it was announced today.

The university said the honour was in recognition of his distinguished contribution to the trade union movement.

Bickerstaffe is also an honorary freeman of his home town of Doncaster and was awarded an honorary social sciences doctorate from the University of Southampton for services to trade unionism and public services.
