Blair listening to employers’ concerns on maternity leave

Tony
Blair told employers he is listening to their concerns over plans to give women
the right to return to work part-time after having a child.

Delegates
at the British Chambers of Commerce conference in London claimed that extra
rights for new mothers would increase costs and the burden of red tape on
businesses.

Blair
said he is considering employers’ worries about the proposals raised in a work
and parents green paper but stressed the Government was committed to expanding
child care places and improving maternity pay.
