The
Government is targeting employers to improve the basic skills of the workforce
through a new campaign launched this week.
Ivan
Lewis, the adult skills minister, said employers should be encouraging and
working with staff to improve basic skills in the UK.
A
new phase of the Skills for Life ‘Get On’ campaign will now actively target
employers to tackle the skills problem.
Lewis
said improving basic skills would increase productivity and efficiency while
helping employers to deliver better customer services.
"For
employers, introducing training can be the first step towards improving skills,
and therefore productivity at a higher level. I want employers to look upon
National Tests in adult literacy and numeracy as a clear and reliable measure
of achievement," he said.
