Journalists face axe at Express Newspapers

Nearly 150 library and editorial staff jobs are set to be
lost at Express Newspapers.

The newspaper group, which publishes the Daily Star, Daily
Express and the Sunday Express, has sent out letters to 540 staff across all three
titles outlining details of the proposals.

A spokesman for Express Newspapers said the plans were
subject to three months consultation and those staff selected for redundancy
would then have a further month of individual consultation.

She said the changes were necessary in order to enable Express
Newspapers to compete in the 21st Century.
