Satellite launches drive to rally troops

Satellite
communications firm Inmarsat is sponsoring the World Rally Championship (WRC),
to help motivate its staff and showcase its latest high-tech products.

The
firm was concerned that staff developing its products never got to see them in
the marketplace, because they are mainly used for shipping navigation and
satellite communications.

However
the WRC, which organises motor races in 14 countries, will be using real-time
satellite technology and other products so staff can see them in action.

Staff
at the Inmarsat come from 55 countries, but are rarely together in one place,
so the races will enable them to network and meet up more frequently.

Inmarsat
has also set up an company intranet so people can keep up to date with the
championships and is beaming live coverage to the company’s UK restaurant and
bar.
