The Road Haulage Association wins unfair dismissal case

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has won an unfair dismissal case brought by a former employee, according to roadtransport.com.

Croydon Employment Tribunal ruled that the redundancy of IT systems architect Gerald Wilson was genuine.

Wilson had been employed at the RHA headquarters in Weybridge, Surrey, and was one of 12 staff made redundant in March 2009 when the organisation moved its back office functions to its Peterborough office.

Wilson told the tribunal his redundancy was “unfair and unnecessary”, and that there was a continuing need for his work, but the tribunal found that all statutory dismissal and redundancy procedures had been properly followed by the RHA.

RHA chief executive Geoff Dunning said: “We were entitled to make the changes necessary for the efficacy of our business and make staff redundant, and did so in the legal and proper manner.”
