£1m bonus for school governors under investigation

A London school is being investigated by Brent Council after a report claimed governors paid themselves up to £1m in bonuses.

Head teacher Alan Davies was allegedly paid a bonus of £50,000 two years ago and a further £80,000 last year at Copland Community School in Wembley, bringing his total annual pay to £160,000, the BBC has reported.

He has been suspended amid claims that governors paid themselves thousands of pounds’ worth of bonuses over seven years.

Council bosses have refused to publish the report until the trial involving the allegations is over, so as not to impede any police investigation.

Council leader Paul Lorber said: “If money has been paid out to individuals rather than the benefit of the school, then people will be disciplined.”
