A thesis on the role of occupational health in preventing workplace bullying has won the first Denis D’Auria Prize, a prize inaugurated by Cardiff University in memory of the college’s senior lecturer in toxicology and occupational medicine, who passed away at the end of 2010.
The dissertation, which was written by Dr Carly Atkinson, is entitled: “The role of occupational health in the management of bullying and harassment in the workplace: an evidence based literature review”.

Atkinson’s work was undertaken as part of the university’s MSc in occupational health (policy and practice) and demonstrated the importance of bullying and harassment in the workplace, but also the lack of evidence as to how best to deal with the problem.
The university held the award ceremony in honour of Dr D’Auria in January.
