Northern ‘super city’ plans unveiled by development firm

Detailed plans for a northern ‘super city’, offering 30,000 new jobs on a purpose-built 1.5 million square-foot business district, have been unveiled.

Development firm Creative Sheffield launched the 123-page proposals, which include attracting major employers to the new development.

The company is in talks with both Leeds and Manchester City Councils as it bids to create the UK’s second ‘economic growth pole’.

Creative Sheffield chief executive Ian Bromley said: “This is the most authoritative business plan any UK city has seen.

“Sheffield had the highest employment growth of all UK core cities during the 10 years to 2005, with 73,000 new jobs, which shows we have the track record to deliver on our ambitions.”
