Fundraising certificate will offer entry-level qualification to voluntary sector workers

A training programme and qualification initiative for fundraisers will launch this month.

Claiming to offer the first entry-level training programme and qualification for fundraisers, Fundraising Academy aims to provide training for people looking to work in the voluntary sector.

The London-based course, Foundation in Fundraising Certificate (FFC), starts at the end of the month. Forty students will study 15 modules covering corporate, statutory and trust fundraising, strategy skills, customer service and database and IT skills.

Each module will be tutored by fundraising practitioners from charities including Barnardo’s, the British Red Cross and Volunteer Reading Help.

The Fundraising Academy is the brainchild of Rupert Tappin, managing director of professional fundraising organisation Future Fundraising.

Tappin said: “If fundraising is to become more professionalised, then there has to be a more professional route into the sector. Fundraising is alone among the professions in not having a serious entry-level training programme and qualification.

“Our vision is the creation and continual development of a training programme specifically designed for individuals wishing to enter the fundraising sector.”
