HR staff at Whitbead face an anxious few weeks after the leisure group announced plans to cut head office jobs as part a corporate restructuring.
The group, whose brands include David Lloyd Leisure, Costa and Premier Travel Inn, is planning to “streamline” head office services.
Under the proposals, all of the group’s brands will share HR, IT, communications, and property services, rather than having their own separate teams.
The move, which follows Whitbread’s acquisition of Premier Lodge and the sale of Marriott Hotels, will also see 16 senior executives departing, equal to 20% of its management team.

Alan Parker, the chief executive, said: “This new structure will eliminate duplication between the corporate centre and the brands, improve the speed and efficiency of our operations and reduce costs.”
Whitbread said it was too early to say how many jobs would go as a result of the overhaul, but planned to give a more detailed explanation when it published its interim results next month.
