The Government
has launched a new project to improve productivity and the working environment
in the Scotch Whisky industry.
The
three-year, £210,000 project will bring together the GMB union, the Scotch
Whisky Association and six leading UK whisky companies to build on existing
best practice.
It
will seek to improve safety, boost productivity levels, increase performance,
develop employee skills levels and minimise staff turnover and absenteeism.
The whisky
industry directly employs more than 10,000 people in Scotland and across the UK,
with around 65,000 people reliant on the sector for jobs.

Scottish regional secretary Harry Donaldson said: "This project will
ensure the sustainability of the Scottish whisky industry by guaranteeing
competitiveness through a highly skilled workforce."
