A
group of MPs investigating the alarming rise in gun crime is calling for an
increase in the number of armed police officers on the UK’s streets.
The
cross party parliamentary group on gun crime said all forces around the UK
should have an "adequate" number of armed units on duty.
According
to the group the number of trained gun officers has dropped by 600 since 1997
to 5,776.

MPs
now want to see about one in 10 personnel trained to use firearms, which
equates to around 13,000 across the whole of the UK.
