The
TUC has labelled yesterday’s Budget as ‘sensible’ and ‘steady as she goes’.
Brendan
Barber, TUC general secretary-elect, said the Budget included many useful
changes that will boost skills, tackle poverty and help regions.
"The
Chancellor has held his nerve," he said.
"He
was right to face down those critics who said he should cut spending. Keeping
up investment in our hard-pressed public services is exactly the right thing to
do at this stage of the economic cycle.
"The
world economy is going through a difficult patch. The UK is not immune, but it
is a measure of the Government’s success that we are doing much better than
most."
