Arriva
Trains Northern conductors today called off their strike action over pay.
The
RMT trade union has reluctantly accepted ATN’s offer of a 4 per cent rise for
conductors – ending the year-long dispute.
Bob
Crow, general secretary of the RMT, said: “Even after a year of sustained and
united industrial action, our members voted by a two-to-one majority to reject
the company’s completely inadequate offer."
Crow
claims that the Strategic Rail Authority has "effectively bankrolled"
ATN through out the strike action.
“The
very idea of a government agency openly backing an employer in an industrial
dispute is disgraceful, but under the circumstances, it would be wrong to ask
our members to suffer more financial hardship," Crow said.
"The
problems at Arriva Trains Northern, particularly of low pay, have not gone
away."

Crow
continued by calling for national bargaining on the railways.
