£2m boost will boost chemical industry’s leadership

The
Government is to give the chemicals industry over £2m to improve its
productivity.

Industry
body the Process Industries Centre for Manufacturing  Excellence Forum will use the £2.25m over the next four years to
introduce mechanisms to encourage companies to share best practice to improve
the industry’s overall competitive performance.

Announcing
the package Trade Secretary Patricia Hewitt, said: "The chemicals industry
is vital to our economic success, creating jobs, prosperity and value, and we
cannot afford to be complacent. The industry needs leadership and change."

move follows a government report released last December which concluded that
the industry needs improved leadership to improve productivity and
competitiveness performance.
