The
gap between men and women’s pay widened in 2002.
A
survey of pay trends from Incomes Data Services (IDS) finds that men’s salaries
grew faster than women’s for the first time in 15 years. The increase was
mainly attributed to huge pay increases awarded to a small group of very senior
male executives.
But
the research also reveals that male jobs continued to be better paid than those
performed by women of similar skills and experience.

"This
analysis should be seen as a call to action to end the scandal of unequal
pay," said Julie Mellor, chairwoman of the Equal Opportunities Commission.
