Members
of the Fire Brigades Union are to strike from tomorrow after rejecting an
independent pay review report which recommended an 11 per cent rise over two
years.
The
union continues to demand an increase of 40 per cent to take salaries up to
£30,000.
The
FBU’s 52,000 members plan a 48-hour strike from tomorrow and a series of
eight-day strikes from November 22, December 4 and December 16.

Local
government minister Nick Raynsford said the recommendations in Sir George
Bain’s review are the "way forward".
