Companies suffer as staff fail to turn up for training

New
findings show that businesses in the UK are wasting up to 20 per cent of
training budgets because staff fail to attend courses they are booked for.

The
survey of 250 firms estimates the drop-outs are costing UK HR departments up to
£871m a year, with only a fifth of companies not suffering a financial loss due
to staff absent from training courses.

The
Annual Training Survey by Cambridge Online Learning also found that
three-quarters of those surveyed felt that training to develop better people
managers was too limited.

According
to the research, UK management training is still in its infancy, with less than
10 per cent of companies dedicating a substantial amount of their budget to
management development.
